The Lithuanian authorities dismiss their ambassador to Russia, Eitvydas Bayarunas, reports LRT.
Bayarunas should leave the post on June 1.
In addition, the Consulate General of the Republic in St. Petersburg will be liquidated from June 7.
On April 21, the Ambassadors of Latvia and Estonia, Maris Riekstins and Margus Laidre, as well as the Charge d’affaires of Lithuania, Virginia Umbrasene, were summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Moscow announced its decision to close the Consulate General of Latvia in St. Petersburg and the consulate in Pskov, the Consulate General of Estonia in St. Petersburg and its office in Pskov, as well as the Consulate General of Lithuania in St. Petersburg.
Such a decision, as explained in the department, was made in response to the closure of the Russian consulates General in Klaipeda, Liepaja, Daugavpils, Narva and the office of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Tartu, as well as taking into account the provision of military assistance by the authorities of these countries to the Kiev regime and their cover-up of crimes of Ukrainian nationalists against the civilian population of Donbass and Ukraine».
“The heads and other consular officials of the specified Estonian and Latvian consular missions are declared persona non grata, and consular officials and employees of the administrative and technical staff of the specified institutions who are not citizens of the Russian Federation are unacceptable,” the Foreign Ministry said.
