Elisabeth Ellingsen

An employee of the Norwegian consulate Elisabeth Ellingsen, who in July told the staff of the Murmansk hotel about hatred of Russians, no longer works at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. This was reported by the representative of the department Tuva Bogsnes to Dagbladet.

According to Bogsnes, Ellingsen applied for dismissal in April, that is, the scandal at the hotel occurred after she decided to leave the position. Since September 1, she has not been an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On July 30, the Telegram channel Mash published a video in which a woman quarrels with hotel staff. The authors of the channel clarified that the hotel is located in Murmansk, and the guest is a diplomat Elisabeth Ellingsen. The conflict, according to Mash, occurred due to the managers’ request to wait until the maids finish cleaning. Russian Russian Ellingsen called the hotel and its staff “a disgrace” and stated that she “hates Russians” and that she was used to clean rooms: “I’m not some Russian woman who just cleans up at random.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Ellingsen’s behavior a manifestation of hatred and nationalism. The governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, advised everyone who hates Russians to “go to hell from Russia”.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry soon said that it deeply regretted what had happened and stressed that the feelings expressed in no way reflect Norwegian politics or the attitude of Norwegians towards Russia and the Russian people.

Turchak proposed holding referendums in the DPR and LPR on November 4

Turchak proposed holding referendums in the DPR and LPR on November 4

Andrey Turchak

It is symbolic and correct to hold referendums on the accession of the DPR, the LPR and the liberated territories to Russia on November 4 on National Unity Day, said Secretary of the General Council of United Russia Andrey Turchak.

“We communicate with people there every day, hear what they say, see their moods. They have been ready for this for a long time,” he added, expressing confidence that the referendums will take place before the end of this year anyway. And the Russian world, now divided by formal borders, will regain its integrity.

RBC wrote on September 1, citing sources, that the Kremlin expects to hold voting in the republics of Donbass, Kherson, Zaporozhye and Kharkiv regions before the end of autumn.

“That is, the interval starting from the conditional September 11 (A single voting day in Russia.—RBC) as a starting point and ending approximately on November 4–7»,— one of the sources close to the presidential administration clarified.

During a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian military took control of the Kherson region and partially Zaporozhye and Kharkiv. Civil-military administrations (CAA) were established in these territories.

The head of the Zaporozhye CAA, Yevgeny Balitsky, said that the authorities wanted to hold a referendum on joining Russia on September 11, on a single voting day. The administration of the Kherson region advocated holding a vote on all territories under its control in one day.

At the end of July, the CAA of the Kharkiv region said that they were not yet ready to discuss a referendum on joining Russia, since only about 20% of the region’s territory was under Russian control at that time. Four interlocutors of RBC also said that the presidential administration considers it illogical to hold a referendum without having control over Kharkiv.

The leadership of the DPR and LPR has repeatedly talked about the intention to organize a vote on joining Russia. In February, Moscow recognized the republics within the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, but Russian troops have not yet reached the administrative borders of the Donetsk region.

According to an INSOMAR survey, 63% of citizens in the Kherson region are in favor of joining Russia, 71% in the Zaporozhye region. According to two sources of RBC, the mood in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions is heterogeneous. The first deputy head of the presidential administration of Russia, Sergei Kiriyenko, stated at the end of August that 75% of people in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions support joining Russia, and 92% in the DPR and LPR.

Navalny was sent to a detention center and transferred to a strict regime

In in his Telegram channel, the oppositionist claims that the colony’s leadership recognized him as a “malicious violator” and transferred him to strict conditions of detention

Navalny was sent to a SHIZO and transferred to a strict regime

Alexey Navalny (on the screen)

Opposition leader Alexei Navalny was sent to a penal isolation cell (SHIZO) in the colony. He announced this in his Telegram channel.

Since mid-August, he has already been to the detention center three times: the first time because of the unbuttoned top button of his robe, the second because he did not quickly fulfill the requirement to put his hands behind his back when returning from the isolation ward, and the third time because he introduced himself incorrectly. According to Navalny, the prison authorities promised him after the first time that the isolation ward could become his “permanent residence”.

Now Navalny did not specify the official reason for his imprisonment in the SHIZO, he will spend 15 days there. The oppositionist also said that he was recognized as a “malicious violator”.

“Strict conditions of detention” mean that the prisoner is not kept in a barrack, but in a lockable cell. And this is even less money that can be spent per month, even fewer parcels and transfers and even fewer dates per year,” said Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh.

Navalny has been in the colony since the winter of 2021: then the court appointed him a real term in the case of “Yves Rocher” instead of a conditional one, since he did not come to register with the FSIN authorities, including while he was being treated for the effects of poisoning in Berlin. The oppositionist was serving his sentence in a general regime colony in Pokrov, Vladimir region, and had to go on trialfreedom in July-August 2023, but this summer the verdict in another case on fraud came into force, Navalny was sentenced to nine years in a high-security colony and transferred to the appropriate correctional institution in Melekhovo (also in the Vladimir region).

ZThe Security Council’s deputy emotionally commented on the change of the prime minister in the UK and the statements of the head of European diplomacy

Medvedev wrote about a freak uncle, a freak aunt and a man with a sad face

Dmitry Medvedev

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev published a post on his Telegram channel with comments on the change of the British Prime Minister and statements by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrel. He called the head of the British government Liz Truss “a freak aunt”, the departed British prime minister “a freak uncle”, and the head of EU diplomacy “a man with a sad face” and “a non-handshaking being”.

“Changing of the guard in Britain: the freak-uncle is gone, the freak-aunt has come. The new prime minister: a) an incompetent and mediocre thermonuclear Russophobe who does not have elementary ideas about politics, history, geography, but wants to defeat Russia in everything; b) mows under Margaret Thatcher, not possessing her abilities even by 5 percent; c) expects to overcome the energy crisis and food inflation, which became a consequence of her delusional sanctions exercises», — this is how the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council described the new Prime Minister of Great Britain.

The second part of Medvedev’s post is devoted to the statements of Josep Borrel. During a speech in Prague this week, the diplomat switched from English to his native Spanish, after which the sound of his speech was turned off in the broadcast, and a simultaneous translation track was launched. According to this translation, Borrel stated that the EU does not yet have a concrete plan on how to defeat fascist Russia and its fascist regime. The EU apparatus claims that it is a translation error. The Russian Foreign Ministry requested a transcript of the diplomat’s speech.

“A man with a sad face by the name of Borrel said that Russia is a fascist state. I would not go back to this disgusting statement of the narrow-minded EU commissioner, but I have to specifically emphasize that such things should never be forgotten by anyone. This official should be permanently included in the lists of non-charitable beings without the right to pardon,” Medvedev said about this incident.

The incident with Borrel’s statement was previously commented on by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stated that if the head of EU diplomacy lived in the 1930s, he turned out to be a supporter of the pro-Nazi Francoist regime. “In my opinion, he was on the side of the putschists, because today he supports just the same putschists on the territory of Ukraine,” Putin said, commenting on Borrel’s speech.

The Foreign Ministry banned the entry of the “military leadership of the EU” to Russia

ToThe Foreign Ministry did not name specific names, restrictions also affected employees of European defense companies that supply weapons to Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has banned entry to Russia to the EU military leadership

The Russian Foreign Ministry has banned the entry into the country of “the highest military leadership of the European Union”, the ministry said in a statement.

The measure was taken in response to sanctions against Russians and Russian companies. The list of those who are prohibited from entering Russia also includes high-ranking officials of the law enforcement agencies of the EU member states, representatives of European companies from the field of arms production involved in the supply of military products to Ukraine. But the Foreign Ministry did not name specific people.

“The corresponding note verbale of the Russian Foreign Ministry has been transmitted to the EU delegation in Russia,” the ministry said.

The European Union is an economic and political union, there are no military bodies among its institutions. The community has a body of diplomacy – the European External Relations Service, which is headed by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Now this post is occupied by Josep Borrel.

On August 30, an informal summit of the heads of the Ministries of Defense of the EU member states was held in Prague, at which Borrel was also present. Following its results, the head of the European Diplomacy called the situation in Ukraine very bad and assured that Brussels will continue to help Kiev with military means, and will also work on creating a mission to train the Ukrainian military. The Russian side has repeatedly opposed the supply of weapons to Ukraine, stating that their goal is to prolong the conflict.

At the end of March, the Foreign Ministry banned the entry to Russia of the EU’s top leadership, including a number of European commissioners, heads of military structures, and the majority of MEPs. The sanctions affected those who “promoted the anti-Russian policy”. Borrel then expressed regret because of these restrictions.

Putin said he trusts the IAEA report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP

Putin called the allegations that Russia is firing at the NPP “bullshit”. According to the president, despite the pressure on the IAEA from European states, he considers the work of the mission professional and trusts its report

Putin said he trusts the IAEA report on the situation on Zaporozhye NPP

Video

Despite the pressure on the IAEA inspectors from the United States, the organization’s report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP is credible. This was stated at the Eastern Economic Forum by Russian President Vladimir Putin, broadcast by RBC.

When asked by the moderator whether the president trusts the IAEA report, Putin replied: “Yes, I certainly trust this report.”

At the same time, the Head of state stressed that the IAEA mission is under pressure from the countries in which they work, including the United States. «[Therefore, they cannot directly say that the shelling is carried out from the Ukrainian territory. Well, these are obvious things. We also control the station, our military personnel are standing there. Well, are we shooting by ourselves, or what?»— said Putin.

Putin called the statements that Russia is shelling the nuclear power plant nonsense. “We also control the station. Our servicemen are standing there. Well, are we shooting by ourselves or what? It’s just bullshit. There is no other way to say it,” he said.

The IAEA published a report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP on the eve of September 6. In it, the organization called for immediate measures to prevent a radiation accident that could occur due to damage to the power plant resulting from hostilities. At the same time, the agency’s employees did not see any signs of radiation spreading from the station. The mission also recorded the presence of Russian military personnel, vehicles and equipment and damage at several facilities of the station, but they refused to name those responsible for the arrivals.

Since Russia began military operations in Ukraine and took control of part of the territory of the Zaporozhye region, where the nuclear power plant is located, both sides of the conflict have repeatedly reported attacks on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Shelling became more frequent in July and August. Moscow and Kiev blamed each other for this. Representatives of 40 countries called on the Russian authorities to transfer nuclear facilities under the control of Ukraine.

On September 1, IAEA experts arrived at the nuclear power plant. Upon arrival, they conducted an initial assessment and observed the work of the NPP staff. The head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, noted that the employees perform their work very professionally, despite difficult circumstances.

Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe by installed capacity and the third largest in the world. The Zaporizhia NPP accounts for six of the 15 operating nuclear power units in Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of Russia announced the taking of the Zaporozhye NPP under control on February 28.Formally, the station is still under the management of Energoatom.

Putin said that African countries were “rudely thrown” in the West

PResident Vladimir Putin: The West rudely threw and cheated the poorest countries because of grain from Ukraine According to the president, only 3% of the food exported from Ukraine is sent to the poorest countries of the world. He pointed out that the West continues to pursue a colonial policy and “once again rudely threw” African countries

Putin said that in the West they

Western states “cheated” and “roughly threw” the poorest countries of Africa with the export of grain from Ukraine. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF), broadcast by RBC.

“What we see is another brazen deception. Deception of the international community, deception of partners in Africa, in other countries that are in particular need of food. <...> It turned out that they (Western countries.—RBC) once again rudely thrown, <..."they cheated not only us, but also the poorest countries," the head of state noted.

At the same time, according to Putin, Russia will continue to work within the framework of the grain deal in the hope that its main goals will be achieved.

Earlier, speaking at the WEF, Putin said that since the beginning of the grain deal, only two out of 87 ships have sailed from Ukraine to the poorest countries, and only 60 thousand tons of 2 million tons of food have been exported (about 3%). “With this approach, the scale of food problems in the world will only increase. <...> Maybe you should think about limiting the export directions of grain and other food along this route. I will definitely consult on this topic with the President of Turkey [Recep Erdogan],” the Russian president promised.

The agreement on the grain deal was signed by Russia and Ukraine separately from each other with Turkey and the UN on July 22. The parties pledged to create a safe corridor for the passage of grain ships through the Black Sea, representatives of the UN, Turkey and Ukraine agreed to monitor the loading in order to exclude the passage of military cargo. The agreement was concluded for three months with the possibility of extension. The first cargo ship left the Odessa port on August 1.

The risk of famine in the poorest countries after the start of the special operation in Ukraine was previously warned by the UN. According to the organization, this year about 13 million people will additionally face the problem of malnutrition due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Putin previously said that the risk of famine in the poorest countries was provoked by Western countries, because of whose actions there was a shortage of fertilizers, which, in turn, led to a decrease in yields. “Prices will go up even more, which threatens hunger, especially in the poorest countries. And it will be entirely on the conscience of the US administration and the European bureaucracy,” the president pointed out.

Currently, 345 million people face food shortages in the world, and more than 800 million go to bed hungry every night, according to data on the UN WFP website.

The main cause of hunger, according to the organization, are: military conflicts, climate shocks, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and low costs of fighting hunger.

Politico has learned about the EC’s proposal to limit gas prices to €50 per MWh

AtFrance is ready to support the establishment of a marginal gas price from Russia. Spain and Germany are more cautious in their positions

Politico has learned about the EC's proposal to limit gas prices to 50 per MWh

The EU proposes to limit gas prices to 50 per megawatt-hour, writes Politico with reference to EC documents. At the same time, the European Commission warns, such a step could become risky: the European Union should be ready to immediately abandon Russian gas if Moscow completely blocks it in response.

According to the publication, France advocated the establishment of a marginal price for gas from Russia, and the level of the entire EU and a tax on excess profits in the energy sector. Brussels is developing radical measures to reduce energy prices, which will be discussed by representatives of EU countries on Wednesday before an emergency meeting of energy ministers on Friday.

According to the EC documents, the proposals include limiting prices for Russian gas at the EU-wide level and distributing gas to countries in need in emergency situations. If a price ceiling is imposed, France will support it, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday after a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Spanish Energy Minister Teresa Ribera was more careful in her words. “I think this is something that we definitely need to take into account. The question is to what extent we can afford it,” she told Politico.

Germany has also taken a more cautious stance, publicly agreeing to a tax on excess income only for producers of nuclear energy, renewable energy and coal. According to a representative of the German Ministry of Economy, Berlin wants to create an expert commission to study the most reasonable approach to limiting gas prices, which, in fact, will slow down any measures at the EU level.

The Secretary of State for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, Laurence Boone, warned that emergency measures will be effective only if all countries adopt them.

The fact that an emergency meeting of EU energy ministers will be held in Brussels on Friday, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said in an interview with the Associated Press. According to her, the European Commission expects that the package of measures will be adopted next Wednesday, September 14, and that it will include the separation of prices for gas and other energy carriers, a temporary restriction on gas prices, changes in the rules of trading on exchanges and coordinated measures to reduce demand.

Bloomberg reported that the EU is going to discuss two possible instruments to curb prices – the price limit for imported gas and administrative pricing during emergencies for the regions most affected by supply disruptions. However, the EC calls for considering the option of a price ceiling only if the countries are ready for a complete cessation of supplies. They believe that the price ceiling should beIt is set in such a way that “Russia feels worse when gas supplies are stopped than when the price limit is met.” “Considering that in the previous decade (2010–2020) Russian gas prices ranged from €5 to €35/MWh, any restriction above this level guarantees that Russia will exceed its production costs,” the documents say EC referred to by Bloomberg.

Earlier, the G7 leaders (USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Japan) spoke about plans to limit prices for Russian gas. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi spoke about the EU’s plans to consider the price ceiling for Russian gas back in April. This was later confirmed by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

In early September, the G7 countries agreed to limit the price of Russian oil.

Nebenzia called fake NYT data on Russia's purchase of ammunition from North Korea

American media reports that Russia buys ammunition from North Korea are fake. This was stated by the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Security Council Vasily Nebenzia, reports TASS.

“I haven’t heard about it and I think it’s another fake being spread,” he said.

Earlier, The New York Times and The Associated Press, citing US intelligence data, reported that Russia buys “millions of artillery shells and missiles” from the DPRK.

American intelligence provided journalists with few details about the weapons themselves, the volume and timing of deliveries. However, an unnamed US government official told the newspaper that in addition to shorter-range missiles and artillery shells, Russia will try to purchase additional equipment from the DPRK.

RBC sent a request to the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense.

In March, the United States imposed sanctions against two Russians and three Russian companies. According to the Treasury, they supported the development of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles in North Korea in violation of the recommendations of the UN Security Council, namely, they helped the DPRK to purchase components from Russia to create ballistic missile systems. Later, on this charge, the United States imposed restrictions on two more Russian companies and a citizen.
