Ukrainian officials were banned from flying helicopters until the investigation of the plane crash in Brovary, Kiev region, as a result of which the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including Minister Denis Monastyrsky, was killed, acting head of the department Igor Klimenko said, his words are quoted by the Country.ua».
According to Klimenko, Airbus H225 helicopters, one of which crashed in Brovary, are now at airfields. “We are checking all the helicopters that were in the Interior Ministry system. This process will be delayed for a while. Perhaps for a month or two, until we establish with foreign specialists that they are safe. If, of course, we consider the version that this is a malfunction, for example, of a helicopter,” the acting minister said.
Officials are still allowed to use only motor vehicles, he said.
A helicopter with the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs crashed in Brovary on January 18. He fell near the kindergarten building. There were nine people on board, among them Monastyrsky and his deputy Yevgeny Enin, all of them died. The State Emergency Service reported the death of a total of 14 people, in particular, one child. 25 people were injured, 11 of them children.
The Security Service of Ukraine called three versions of the helicopter crash: violation of flight rules, technical malfunction of the machine and deliberate actions to destroy air transport. Because of the disaster, former Interior Minister Arsen Avakov was searched by employees of the State Bureau of Investigation. Investigators were interested in information about the procurement of Airbus helicopters when Avakov headed the department (2014-2021).
