The Israeli Army (IDF) announced the start of a special operation against the terrorist group “Islamic Jihad” banned in Russia on August 5. Following the results of the first day of the military, 15 terrorists were reported killed, including the commander of the northern brigade of the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, Taysir al-Jabari, and the head of the southern brigade, Khaled Mansour.

“Islamic Jihad” is a militant Islamist group that wants to create an independent Palestinian Islamic state and destroy Israel in the course of jihad. It was founded in the 1970s by Sunnis from the terrorist movement “Muslim Brotherhood” (banned in Russia).

The Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave in Gaza then reported that more than 30 people were killed by Israeli airstrikes, and another 215 were injured. In response, about 1,000 rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel, most of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, many missiles did not reach the target.

The ruling Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip accused Israel of an act of aggression, its representative Hazem Kasem said that the country should “pay the price” for its actions. The leader of the Islamic Jihad, Ziyad al-Nahhala, who was in Tehran at the time of the start of the Israeli operation, said there could be no truce after the Israeli strikes.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the parties to show restraint, start negotiations and establish a ceasefire. An end to violence is possible only through negotiations, which should result in the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state within the borders of 1967, the ministry stressed.
