Germany and its partners intend to transfer a total of 112 Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Bloomberg reports, citing a statement from the German government.
Earlier, Berlin announced that it would supply Kiev with 14 such tanks. The New York Times, citing data from the European Council on Foreign Relations analytical center, wrote that about 2 thousand Leopard tanks of various modifications are currently in service with 13 European countries.
Poland has already announced its intention to transfer such machines to Ukraine: The day before, on January 24, she asked the FRG for permission to transfer these tanks. Germany, as Bloomberg points out, is going to give the allies permission to supply these tanks.
Finland also announced that it would join the transfer of Leopard to Ukraine, Yle reports, citing Defense Minister Makko Savola. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte admitted that the country would buy 18 such tanks from Germany for subsequent transfer to Ukraine. The supply of tanks to Kiev by the West will have consequences “with a minus sign”, according to the Kremlin. “It will add problems to Ukraine, but it will not change anything in terms of the Russian side’s progress towards achieving its goals,” said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
