The President of Croatia opposed the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO

Zoran Milanovich

The applications of Sweden and Finland to join NATO are a dangerous gamble, these countries cannot join the alliance until the law on elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is changed in the interests of Bosnian Croats, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said.

“I consider it a dangerous adventure to involve Finland, which is located 50 km from St. Petersburg,” he said (quoted by Danas). According to the President of Croatia, the national Parliament should not ratify the accession of anyone to NATO until there is a reform of the electoral legislation in BiH.

“As for me, let them join NATO, let them poke an angry bear in the eye with a pen,” he continued. However, “until the issue of the election law in BiH is resolved, until the Americans, the British and the Germans force [the Bosnian authorities] to change the election law in the next six months and give the Croats basic rights, the Croatian parliament should not ratify anyone’s entry into NATO,” the TV channel reports Milanovich N1.

Sources of The Times reported that Sweden and Finland are ready to join NATO this summer. According to Erkki Tuomioi, deputy chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament, Helsinki may apply in the coming weeks.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the possibility of Sweden and Finland joining the alliance, said that such a decision could lead to the most undesirable consequences and would seriously worsen the situation in the military sphere. In this case, according to Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Russia will have to “seriously strengthen the grouping of land forces and air defense” and “deploy significant naval forces in the waters of the Gulf of Finland”. “In this case, there will be no talk of any nuclear-free status of the Baltic Sea.” The balance must be restored,” he said.

At the same time, Medvedev said that “there is no point in arguing” that if there is not a special operation in Ukraine, then the question of the accession of Sweden and Finland “generally did not arise”. According to him, “attempts to drag” these countries into the alliance have been made before.

Moscow is ready to study UN initiatives “to alleviate the suffering of Ukrainians”

MFA: Russia is ready to consider UN initiatives to alleviate the suffering of Ukrainians Moscow will take this step if the UN proposals actually contribute to this goal, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed

Moscow is ready to study UN initiatives

Sergey Lavrov and Antonio Guterres (from left to right)

Russia is ready to consider concrete initiatives by the UN “to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Ukraine”. This is stated in the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry following the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

“Russia is ready to consider concrete initiatives, including on the part of the UN, to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population in the zone of a special military operation, if they actually contribute to this noble goal,” the ministry stressed.

Earlier, Guterres said that the UN proposed to create a joint contact group with Moscow and Kiev to organize safe humanitarian corridors from Ukraine for civilians.

According to him, it is necessary to open humanitarian corridors in Ukraine, which “really were safe and effective” and which “were observed by everyone for the evacuation of civilians and the delivery of the necessary aid”.

Guterres held talks with Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on April 26. In two days, he will visit Kiev, where he will hold talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

The representative of the UN Secretary General, Farhan Haq, said that during his trips Guterres wants to understand “what progress can be made” on the situation in Ukraine. “Our goal is a ceasefire and improvement of the situation of people in Ukraine,” he said.

On April 19, the UN Secretary General called on Russia and Ukraine for a humanitarian truce from April 21 for four days in connection with the celebration of Easter. According to him, the pause opened a “safe passage for all civilians”. Pope Francis made a similar request to the two countries.

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, said on April 25 that Moscow does not consider it possible to introduce a ceasefire regime at the present time.

“The only advantage it will give is the opportunity for the Ukrainian armed forces to regroup and arrange more provocations,” he concluded.

Putin said that Russia is aware of those behind the “provocation in Bucha”

Vladimir Putin

Russia has nothing to do with the events in the Ukrainian Butch, but knows who organized this provocation, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Moscow.

“We know who did it. We know who prepared this provocation, by what means and what kind of people worked on it,” Putin said.

Guterres has previously called for an independent investigation into what happened in Bucha to bring the perpetrators to justice. According to the UN Secretary General, he was “deeply shocked” by the footage from the city.

This footage was published in early April by the Ukrainian authorities and a number of media outlets, including Reuters and AFP. The photos showed corpses in civilian clothes lying on the street, some of them had their hands tied.

The Russian Defense Ministry called the published photos and videos a provocation and stated that the Russian military was not involved in the killings of civilians. The ministry said that the Russian units left Bucha on March 30, and during the time they controlled the city, not a single local resident was injured.

Putin compared the Fuss with “fakes about the use of chemical weapons” in Syria. He recalled that the United States launched strikes on the territory of this country after the Syrian military was accused of using chemical weapons. However, it later turned out that “this is fake,” the president said.

PGNiG announced Gazprom’s decision to stop gas supplies to Poland

PGNiG: Gazprom informed Poland about the complete suspension of gas supplies The Polish PGNIG considered the stoppage of supplies by Gazprom a violation of the contract and intends to make claims

PGNiG announced Gazprom's decision to stop gas supplies to Poland

The Polish energy company PGNiG has received a letter from Gazprom, which says about the complete suspension of supplies under the Yamal contract. This is reported on the company’s website.

“Currently, all deliveries to consumers are carried out in accordance with their demand. The companies are monitoring the situation and preparing for various scenarios,” the message says.

PGNiG considered Gazprom’s decision a violation of the contract and announced its intention to file claims against the Russian company, Interia reports.

RBC sent a request to a representative of Gazprom.

The PGNiG agreement with Gazprom expires at the end of 2022. In early February, Warsaw announced that PGNiG was not going to conclude a new long-term contract with Gazprom for the supply of Russian gas.

Earlier, the Onet portal and the Bloomberg agency reported that Russia had suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. Nevertheless, Gazprom did not confirm this information and reminded that Poland has one day left to pay for gas.

The Polish government’s commissioner for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, said on April 26 that Warsaw refuses to pay for gas supplies from Russia in rubles and is ready for all possible risks. He added that Poland can even disconnect itself from the gas supply “at any time”.

On this day, the Polish Foreign Ministry imposed sanctions against Russian campaigns, including Gazprom, Novatek and Novatek Green Energy.

On March 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to transfer gas payments to rubles for unfriendly countries, including the EU countries. The new gas payment scheme has been in effect since April 1.

Nevertheless, already in mid-April, Putin noted that there were failures in paying for Russian oil and gas supplies to unfriendly countries. So, some EU countries have reported that they do not intend to pay for gas in rubles. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted that this requirement violates contracts.

Putin called the talks with Ukraine in Istanbul a breakthrough

NAt the meeting in Istanbul, the Ukrainian delegation handed over to the Russian a list of conditions that Kiev considered necessary for concluding a settlement agreement. Vladimir Putin said that Russia does not give up diplomacy

Putin called the talks with Ukraine in Istanbul a breakthrough

Russia is determined to reach agreements with Ukraine, Moscow does not refuse a diplomatic settlement of the situation, at the meeting of delegations in Istanbul they “achieved a breakthrough”. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteris, broadcast by the TV channel “Russia 24”.

Video

“We managed to achieve a fairly serious breakthrough. Our Ukrainian colleagues did not associate the security requirements with such a concept as the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine,” Putin said.

The President added that Kiev’s representatives “put the issues of Crimea, Sevastopol and the newly recognized republics of Donbass” out of brackets, but after reaching these agreements, Moscow faced provocations, citing the events in Bucha as an example. “We know who did it, who prepared this provocation,” Putin stressed.

In early April, the Ukrainian authorities and Western media distributed photos and videos from Bucha, which show the bodies of people in civilian clothes. The mayor of the city, Anatoly Fedoruk, told AFP that 280 more people were buried in mass graves.

The Defense Ministry called these materials a provocation and stated that during the time the city was under the control of the Russian military, local residents were not injured. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the information about the killings staged by Kiev and Western countries that are trying to “disperse” this data on the Internet. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has assured that it will conduct a check on the fact of publishing materials on the Internet about the situation in Bucha.

The Russian President also called the actions of the Russian forces a “forced measure”, adding that the residents of Donbass were under blockade for eight years, which was publicly recognized by the Ukrainian authorities. This was not noticed by “colleagues in the West,” Putin claims.

Negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine began on February 27, the parties held several rounds in person and several in video mode. The delegations made the greatest progress during a meeting with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Ukraine and Turkey in Istanbul on February 29. Then the negotiations were planned to continue for two days, but due to the fact that the parties agreed on a significant number of issues on the first day, it was decided not to continue the round.

Following the meeting, the head of the Russian delegation and presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky said that Russia had taken “two huge steps towards peace” and decided on them after Kiev’s written proposals, which became its “first formulated desire for compromise”. The proposals, Medinsky said, concerned, among other things, the neutral status of Ukraine.

After the Istanbul meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who made considerable efforts to organize the dialogue, said that the negotiations “gave a significant impetus to the peace process”.

What issues did the parties discuss in Istanbul

According to Moscow’s assessment, “significant progress” was made in Istanbul on the issue of Ukraine’s non-aligned and non-nuclear status, as well as security guarantees for it. The Ukrainian side also expressed its understanding of the situation with Crimea and Donbass.

Kiev offered Moscow to resolve the issue of Crimea’s ownership in bilateral negotiations for 15 years, and to coordinate the issue of Donbass at a meeting of heads of state. The affiliation of these regions will not be challenged by Kiev militarily, it was noted in the voiced proposals of Ukraine. Kiev also declared its readiness to ensure that security guarantees do not apply to Crimea and Donbass.

Ukraine proposed to make the Treaty on Security guarantees multilateral and creating the basis for a new security system in Europe. The guarantors of such a system, Kyiv proposed to make the country— the permanent members of the UN security Council, including Russia, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Israel, Poland and Canada. Ukraine also wants Russia not to object to the country’s accession to the EU.

The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, said later that despite the progress made, Moscow and Kiev have not yet worked out final agreements.

On April 1, the parties resumed negotiations via video link with the involvement of working subgroups, but later, after the publication in the media of footage of what happened in the city of Bucha, Kiev region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Ukrainian delegation tried to interrupt the dialogue. Calling the publication a provocation, Lavrov said that it was undertaken in order to “disrupt the ongoing negotiations”.

On April 8, Kiev confirmed that they were continuing negotiations with Russia in a permanent online format and that diplomatic, legal, military and other working groups were participating in the meetings. However, according to the adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak, “there is some change in the negotiating background,” including in connection with the events in Bucha. “This is not a matter of actual negotiations, but the emotional background on which these negotiations are conducted,” Podolyak said at the time.

The United States declared the undesirability of switching to Moldova of the Ukrainian scenario

GPentagon Lava by Lloyd Austin: We do not want the Ukrainian situation to spread to Moldova, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, said that Washington would not like the conflict in Ukraine to spread to Moldova. The Pentagon is aware of the incidents in Transnistria and is investigating their causes

In the USA they declared the undesirability of switching to Moldova of the Ukrainian scenario

Lloyd Austin

The United States considers the expansion of the Ukrainian conflict to Moldova undesirable, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin said at a press conference in Germany, broadcast on Twitter by the American Defense Ministry.

“We have seen reports of recent violence and are continuing to investigate the causes. We are analyzing this and in fact are not yet clearly aware of what exactly happened. Of course, we don’t want any expansion,” Austin said, answering the question whether there is a risk of the conflict expanding to Moldova.

Earlier, the authorities of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Republic reported three incidents: on April 25, unknown persons in Tiraspol fired an RPG grenade launcher at the building of the Ministry of State Security, and on April 26, two antennas of the center that relayed Russian radio were disabled by explosions in the village of Mayak. Also on this day, according to the Pridnestrovian authorities, a military unit in the village of Parkany was attacked.

After that, the authorities canceled for security reasons all mass events dedicated to Victory Day, including the parade on May 9.

The Security Council and the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, called the incident a terrorist attack, and Krasnoselsky said in Telegram that combat groups from Ukraine were involved in the incidents. He asked the Ukrainian authorities to investigate the facts of the illegal movement of certain militant groups and their commission of terrorist acts in Transnistria.

In connection with the situation, Krasnoselsky called on the Moldovan authorities to use two formats of communication between the countries—1+1 » and «5+2», in which the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, the USA and the European Union also participated. “We have to come to an agreement, to agree on peace first of all and to preserve this peace,” Krasnoselsky said.

Chisinau did not agree with the conclusions of the authorities in Tiraspol about the incidents. Moldovan President Maia Sandu held a meeting of the republic’s Security Council on April 26, after which she reported that there is tension in Pridnestrovie between different forces inside the republic that want to destabilize the situation, which threatens Chisinau and creates certain risks. Sandu also stated that Moldova supports the peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict and does not plan to organize a blockade of Transnistria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called for waiting for the end of the investigation, but stated that they did not want Transnistria to be drawn into the situation around Ukraine.

The command of the peacekeeping forces in the region stated that they are monitoring the situation and the situation in the security zone is calm.

The Rada proposed to “purge the government” of members of “anti-Ukrainian” parties

In The Verkhovna Rada was proposed to introduce a ten-year moratorium on public policy for members of “anti-Ukrainian parties” in order to reduce the influence of “agents”. Earlier, Zelensky suspended the activities of 11 parties for “ties with Russia”

The Rada proposed to

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

A bill has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine prohibiting the founders and members of “anti-Ukrainian parties” from applying for the post of deputies of all levels or the post of president for ten years to “purge the authorities” of such persons. The document is registered in the Ukrainian Parliament.

“The war has actualized the issue of cleansing the government and public space from collaborators and traitors. Some of them worked directly for the special services of Russia, some reached political and business interests due to speculation in the narratives of enemy propaganda, reducing the defense capability,” the explanatory note says.

According to the idea of the authors of the bill, in addition to the positions of the President of Ukraine, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada and local deputies, lustration will also concern state bodies and local self-government structures.

The moratorium on public policy and civil service in relation to members of “anti-Ukrainian parties”, the document says, will not only free up places for more worthy people, but also reduce the influence of “enemy agents”, which cannot be checked in a short time for involvement in acts of sabotage and transfer of information to the enemy.

The bill, its authors point out, is directed against members of the following political forces: Communist Party, Party of Regions, Social Democratic Party, «Opposition Platform— For Life» (OPZH), «Sharia Party», «Power», «Left Opposition», Progressive Socialist Party, «The Union of the Left Forces, the Opposition Bloc, the Socialists, Our and the Vladimir Balance Bloc.

“For the members of the above-mentioned parties, the very fact of belonging to associations that have been methodically introducing enemy propaganda and conducting destructive activities in public space for years is [important], [for them] political responsibility is necessary,” the authors of the bill summarized in an explanatory note.

The document was sent for consideration by the Committee on the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.

About a month after the start of the Russian military operation, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, instructed to suspend the activities of 11 political parties for the duration of martial law, he justified this decision by their “connection with Russia”. The decision affected the OPCW, the Sharia Party, the Opposition Bloc and other parties. «Anythe activity of politicians aimed at a split or collaboration will not be successful, but will receive a tough response,” the Ukrainian leader assured then.

In mid-April, the OPZH faction in the Verkhovna Rada suspended its activities.

Patrushev allowed the collapse of Ukraine “into several states”

According to the Secretary of the Security Council, this may pass due to the policy of the West and the actions of Kiev

Patrushev allowed the collapse of Ukraine into several states

Nikolai Patrushev

Ukraine may break up into several states following the policy of the West and the Kiev regime controlled by it, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev told the Russian newspaper.

“In an attempt to suppress Russia, the Americans, using their henchmen in Kiev, decided to create an antipode of our country, cynically choosing Ukraine for this, trying to divide essentially a single people,” Patrushev said.

According to him, the United States long before the events of 2014 inspired Ukrainians with hatred for everything Russian. “If anything unites the peoples living in Ukraine today, it is only fear of the atrocities of nationalist battalions,” the Secretary of the Security Council said.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly said that the Ukrainian authorities are following instructions “from across the ocean”. So, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova at the end of February said that the Ukrainian authorities are “puppets who have proclaimed themselves the rulers of this land.” In her opinion, they are deprived of any sovereignty.

Zakharova also noted that Kiev has lost the chance for the existence of “Ukraine within its own borders, sovereign Ukraine, independent Ukraine.”

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine to protect the population of Donbass, demilitarization and denazification of the country. At the same time, Moscow noted that the overthrow of the Ukrainian government and the destruction of its statehood is not part of the task of the special operation.

The Foreign Ministry said it was undesirable to involve Tiraspol in the situation in Ukraine

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko said that Moscow has not yet discussed the incidents in Transnistria with Chisinau, but would like to avoid dragging the region into the situation around Ukraine

The Foreign Ministry declared the undesirability of involving Tiraspol in the situation in Ukraine

Russia wants to avoid dragging Transnistria into what is happening around Ukraine. This was stated to journalists by the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Rudenko.

“Let’s wait until the investigation is over. We would like to avoid such a scenario,” Rudenko said, answering a question about whether Transnistria could be involved in the conflict over Ukraine (quoted by RIA Novosti).

“We don’t want the investigation to reveal that the same forces that provoke violence in neighboring regions are behind this,” he added.

According to Rudenko, the situation in the unrecognized republic is very difficult, and its authorities have justifiably introduced a regime of increased terrorist danger. “The investigation will be conducted according to all necessary parameters, and we hope that the reasons will be established and those responsible will be punished,” he said.

He noted that Moscow has not yet discussed the incidents in Transnistria with the Moldovan authorities, but suggested that forces are behind the incident that want to increase tensions in the region.

UN Secretary General proposed to create a contact group on humanitarian corridors from Ukraine

The UN proposed to create a joint contact group with Moscow and Kiev on humanitarian issues, in particular on the organization of safe humanitarian corridors from Ukraine for civilians, Secretary General of the organization Antonio Guterres said at a press conference following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The broadcast was conducted by the TV channel “Russia 24”.

According to Guterres, it is necessary to open humanitarian corridors in Ukraine, which “really were safe and effective” and which “were observed by everyone to evacuate civilians and deliver the necessary aid”.

“To this end, I proposed the creation of a contact group on humanitarian issues, which would unite the UN, Russia and Ukraine to find opportunities, open safe corridors with a local ceasefire to ensure that these corridors are really effective,” Guterres said.

Guterres made such a statement after the appeal of the Ukrainian authorities. As Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk reported yesterday, Kiev asked the UN Secretary General to become a guarantor of the evacuation of civilians from “Azovstal” in Mariupol, and also called on the UN to send representatives of the organization and the Red Cross to the humanitarian convoy.

Guterres held talks with Lavrov in Moscow earlier on April 26. On this day, the UN Secretary General is to meet with President Vladimir Putin. Then, two days later, he will visit Kiev, where he will hold talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
