Wildberries accused Kiev of double standards after sanctions

The introduction of sanctions by the Ukrainian authorities only against Wildberries, although other companies also sell goods on the territory of the country, testifies to the policy of “double standards” pursued by Kiev. This is stated in the Wildberries statement received by RBC. The company called the imposition of sanctions an act of discrimination against its business.

Wildberries assured that the introduction of Kiev sanctions will not have any negative impact on the company’s activities, only consumers and businessmen in Ukraine will suffer.

“Despite the rapid growth of the company’s popularity in Ukraine, sales volumes in this country account for 0.01% of the current turnover of Wildberries. Thus, according to the company, the sanctions imposed can only harm Ukrainian entrepreneurs and buyers who will lose a wide range of goods at affordable prices, ” the report says.

According to Wildberries ‘ calculations, over the past 12 months alone, Ukrainian-made goods (cosmetics, toys, tableware, clothing, shoes, etc.) were sold through the company’s online platform in the amount of more than 1.1 billion rubles.

On July 23, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, by his decree approved the entry into force of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the introduction of sanctions against Wildberries units in Ukraine, as well as in Russia, Poland, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Later, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Alexander Tkachenko, explained that the sanctions were imposed because of the sale of Wildberries to Russian military uniforms and goods used for “Russian propaganda”.

“This is another step in the struggle to clear the Ukrainian information space from Russian expansion,” the minister said.

The sanctions against Wildberries involve blocking assets, a complete ban on the transit of resources through the territory of Ukraine, preventing the withdrawal of capital from the territory of Ukraine, suspending the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations, stopping the provision of telecommunications services, banning the transfer of technologies and intellectual property rights.

At the same time, the founder of Wildberries and the richest woman in Russia, Tatyana Bakalchuk ($13.1 billion according to Forbes), her husband Vladislav, the director of information technology development of Wildberries, Andrey Revyashko, and the head of the Wildberries Books department, Alexey Kuzmenko, fell under personal sanctions of Ukraine. Their assets in Ukraine are also subject to blocking.
