The private plane and helicopter used by the family of Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk were transferred to the Ukrainian military, the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine reported.
The helicopter and the plane were seized as part of criminal cases under articles on abuse of power, embezzlement and embezzlement of property.
Medvedchuk was the head of the political council of the party “Opposition Platform” For Life” (OPZH). In June, a court in Ukraine banned its activities. Prior to that, the work of the OPZH, along with a number of other Ukrainian parties, was suspended. Kiev suspected them of having ties with Moscow. Medvedchuk, in particular, is Vladimir Putin’s godfather. The Russian president is his daughter’s godfather.
Several criminal cases have been initiated against Medvedchuk in Ukraine. In particular, he was charged with treason and violation of the laws and customs of war, in this case the politician faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. He himself called his persecution political.
Since May last year, Medvedchuk has been under house arrest, but in February of this year, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, he escaped. However, in mid-April, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the politician had been detained and offered Russia to exchange Medvedchuk for captured Ukrainian military. The detainee himself also asked in his appeal, which was published by the SBU.

In response, the Kremlin said that the politician is not a citizen of Russia and that he has nothing to do with the special operation. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the exchange of Medvedchuk for the Russian military is not being considered.
