The Ministry of Justice recognized the media as performing the functions of a foreign agent, a public organization “Yakutia”, our opinion”, the corresponding entry appeared in the register.
Information about the organization’s activities is not available on its website. The main page says that the site is under reconstruction due to the fact that back in August, the Ministry of Justice added its head Stepan Petrov to the list of media-foreign agents. “Stepan Petrov and the organization disagree with the decision of the Ministry of Justice of Russia to include in the register of foreign agents. This decision will be appealed in court”,” says the website “Yakutia” our opinion”.

On October 12, it became known that an administrative case was opened against Petrov, this is the first such case against a citizen who was recognized by the media as a foreign agent. Also involved in another administrative case was former State Duma deputy Lev Ponomarev (recognized as a foreign agent). The case against Petrov was initiated under Article 19.34.1 of the Administrative Code, which prescribes sanctions for non-compliance with requirements for foreign agents entered in the register. Violations in the article of the code are divided into one-time (citizens are punished with a fine of 10 thousand rubles), repeated (50 thousand rubles) and gross (a fine for legal entities of 5 million rubles).
In 2018, Petrov reported that he participated in the 11th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, held at the UN headquarters in Geneva.
Together with the organization “Yakutia” our opinion” the register of the Ministry of Justice contains 86 organizations and individuals recognized by the media as foreign agents.
