Answering the question about the sufficiency of the measures currently being introduced by the Moscow authorities, Peskov noted that the topic of a possible lockdown is the responsibility of the regions. “Here it is no longer important what we think, it is important what decisions are made within the framework of special powers of the region. It is the region that determines the measures that should be taken in the current conditions. We have no information that anyone is discussing a full lockdown, ” he said.
Peskov also responded negatively to the question whether the introduction of lockdown at the federal level is being considered.
This week, the Moscow authorities announced the introduction of restrictions for those who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus. From June 28, they will not be able to visit cafes and restaurants. At the same time, the mayor’s office assured that there are no plans to introduce special QR codes for visiting shopping centers and gyms.
Commenting on the decisions of the Moscow authorities, Peskov said yesterday that some discrimination of citizens without immunity to COVID-19 is inevitable. “People without immunity and without vaccination will not be able to work in all areas. It’s impossible. This will pose a threat to others, ” he explained.
According to the federal operational headquarters, 17,594 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Russia over the past day. The most infected people were found in Moscow (6534), the Moscow region (2323) and St. Petersburg (1092).
