The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in her telegram channel commented on the words of the German Ambassador to Russia, Geza Andreas von Geir, who, in a conversation with RBC, explained the lack of statements regarding the incident with “Nord Stream-1” and “Nord Stream-2” by the ongoing investigation.
Zakharova recalled that earlier it was von Geir who commented on the situation with Alexei Navalny and demanded explanations from Russia in connection with the alleged poisoning of the oppositionist. Zakharova pointed out that less than three weeks had passed since Navalny’s hospitalization. “And Ambassador von Geir already had an unambiguous position of the German government on everything: from the Newcomer to Russia’s responsibility. Moreover, the conversation itself wasit has been planned for a long time. Apparently, from August 21, 2020, everything was already ready for an unambiguous assessment. And now what prevented Ambassador von Geir himself from unequivocally assessing the terrorist attack committed, by the way, in the area of responsibility of the military bloc responsible for security, which includes his country? This time he seized on the investigation as an excuse to avoid an uncomfortable conversation about the obvious,” Zakharova said.
Also, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the fact that Germany did not respond to requests in the Navalny case, and von Geir explained this by saying that it takes from “several months to two years” to respond to requests for legal assistance.
“How interesting it turns out: in the Navalny case, Ambassador von Geir had both evidence and accusations literally right away and for all these years he never gave a single substantive answer to Russia’s questions from Berlin. And on the “Northern Streams” after a whole six months, “silence”,” Zakharova stated.
The explosions on the “Nord Stream” and “Nord Stream-2” occurred at the end of September 2022. Three lines of gas pipelines in the Bornholm Island area were destroyed, “Nord Stream-2” was not put into operation at that time due to sanctions, the operability of “Nord Stream” was disrupted. Denmark, Sweden and Germany are investigating the incident. The Russian Foreign Ministry has previously stated that the authorities of these three countries do not inform Moscow about the progress of the investigation.
In early February, American journalist Seymour Hersh published an article about the bombing of the “Northern Streams”, in which he, citing an anonymous source, claimed that the explosion was organized by US forces with the assistance of Norway. The purpose of the bombing, he said, was the fear of the United States that Germany would not join the anti-Russian sanctions. The White House denies its involvement in the explosions on the gas pipeline. The authorities of European countries did not comment on the investigation. The European Commission (EC) also refused to comment on Hersh’s material, calling his conclusions “speculation”.

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the material “important” and noted that the information contained in it should “provoke the acceleration of the international investigation”, however, according to him, on the contrary, there are “attempts to tacitly curtail” the investigation.
In a conversation with RBC, Gayr, answering a question about the reasons for the lack of comments on the undermining of the “Northern Streams”, explained that the investigation is still ongoing.”These investigations have not been completed yet. I believe the same is true for Russia’s own investigation, at least I haven’t seen a report on a specific result,” the German ambassador said.
