Krasnodar Regional Court

The Krasnodar Regional Court demanded that Roskomnadzor (RCN) block the online publication about thieves in law “Prime Edge”, according to the court’s website.

Based on the results of the consideration of the criminal case against the accused David Dzhangidze, the court decided that it was necessary to pay attention to the “numerous facts of abuse of freedom of the media” by the administrators of the “Prime Edge” website.

So, in a private decision, the judge of the Krasnodar Regional Court Vasily Loboda called “Prime Edge” a site about the socio-cultural values of the criminal world, which “promotes and popularizes” hellip in every possible way and consistently;> criminal power of persons occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy.

According to the judge, the information contained there may pose a real threat to the life and health of citizens, society and the state, since it is aimed at creating the attractiveness of everyday criminal behavior. The court demanded that Roskomnadzor take the necessary measures within a month.

The publication “Prime Time” told RBC that they consider the court’s decision “insufficiently balanced”, since the site does not disseminate “socio-cultural values of the criminal world”. “This is a purely historical project with a serious, scientific immersion in archival annals, exploring the thieves’ world as a phenomenon, ” they explained there.

The website “Prime Edge” states that the media has been collecting and summarizing information about the history of the thieves ‘ world for 20 years. “Our goal is to restore the true picture of the past, and to reflect the processes taking place today objectively and impartially,” the description says.

As previously reported by RBC Krasnodar, on July 26, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced David Dzhangidze to eight years in a high-security colony under Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy”). According to the indictment, Dzhangidze acquired the status of a “thief in law” in the period from June 2 to June 9, 2013 at a “thieves’ meeting ” in Rome.

In February 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft amendment to the Criminal Code, toughening the punishment for creating an organized criminal community (OPS) to 20 years in prison. The President also proposed to increase the maximum amount of the fine for participation in the OP from 1 to 5 million rubles. In addition, Putin proposed to increase the punishment for participating in the creation of an OPS from five years in prisonfreedom until seven. An exception is provided for participants of such meetings who did not have time to commit another crime, voluntarily leave the OPS or report it to law enforcement agencies. The State Duma deputies adopted the law in mid-March, the document was approved by the Federation Council on March 27. On August 1, 2019, the law was signed by the President.
