Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the end of the plenary session of the forum “Russian Energy Week”, which took place the day before, on October 13, gave an interview to the leading American TV channel CNBC Hedley Gamble.

She asked the head of state what he thinks about his successor and really wants to remain as president until his 84 years. “No, I prefer not to answer such questions, this is my traditional answer. There is still quite a lot of time before the next election,” he said.

Putin stressed that talking about this topic destabilizes the situation. “The situation should be calm, stable, so that all authorities, all state structures work confidently, calmly look to the future,” the president noted.

The Head of State added that the Constitution allows him to run for the next term. “But no decisions on this matter have been made yet,” Putin noted.

Earlier, Putin repeatedly answered the question about his future successor and plans to run for a new presidential term. In particular, at the end of June, the head of state said during a direct line that the time would come when he would be able to name a worthy candidate for the presidency. “My responsibility is to giverecommendations to those people who will apply for the post of president. And this is happening in all countries of the world. I do not know of any exceptions. And of course, the time will come, and I hope I will be able to say that such and such a person, in my opinion, is worthy to lead such a wonderful country as our homeland Russia,” Putin said.

Then he reminded that the holy place is never empty and there are no irreplaceable people. The President also noted that a person of any profession can lead the country, although legal education and knowledge of the laws help to be the head of state. However, the main thing is that a person who has decided to become president should be ready to fully devote a significant part of his life to work, Putin said.

Before that, Putin said that he has been thinking about choosing a successor since 2000, but the final decision will be made by citizens. “It doesn’t matter what and how the current leader does, it doesn’t matter who or how he represents, the decisive vote is for the voter,” he argued.
