Vice-governor of the Penza region Sergey Fedotov was awarded a prize for refusing a bribe of 3 million rubles, the press service of the regional government told TASS.

Fedotov received a bonus of 47.2 thousand rubles, the official transferred the money to the Rusfond assistance fund.

According to the investigation, an employee of the Kamensky district administration tried to give Fedotov a bribe. The woman wanted to get help from the vice-governor in winning the competition for the position of head of the district administration. Fedotov refused the bribe and reported it to law enforcement agencies, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case. The official was placed under house arrest; according to the UK, she pleaded guilty.

The governor of the region Oleg Melnichenko at a meeting of the regional government on December 20 said that “gone are the days when it was possible to buy positions in the Penza region for money.” “Those who have not learned it, be careful— so it will be with everyone who will try to solve the issues of buying posts in the Penza region,” he warned.

Fedotov was appointed Vice-governor— head of the Governor’s office and the government of the Penza region in October. He oversees the work of the representative office of the regional government under the Government of Russia.

Melnichenko became the head of the Penza Region on March 26, after the former head of the region Ivan Belozertsev was dismissed by President Vladimir Putin due to loss of confidence. Belozertsev, who had been in charge of the Penza Region since the fall of 2015, was detained on March 21. The UK charged him with taking bribes.
