Zaluzhny is 49 years old. According to Time, after Crimea became part of Russia in 2014, he went from commanding a platoon to leading the troops of Ukraine in the east of the country. In August, the Ukrainian edition of Telegraf reported that Zaluzhny could move to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the AFU will be headed by the commander of the ground forces, Alexander Sirsky. This information has not been confirmed.

Gerasimov is 67 years old, he has been the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces since November 2019. Prior to that, he was Deputy head of the General Staff and commander of the Central Military District.
